Lucerne - Mt Titlis

When we boarded the Luzern-Engelberg Express train, we were filled with anticipation and hoped that the weather remain sunny. Along the way, we started to see dark clouds and that sort of dampen our spirits a little bit. Then the train went into the tunnel and minutes later when it emerged we saw bright and sunny blue skies! Instantly everyone on the train started to cheer and we were filled with excitement once again.

From Engelberg, the only way to reach the summit is via cable car. First, we took the six seater cable car from Engelberg to Trübsee middle station and continued to Stand glacier station. After that we hopped on the Titlis Rotair rotating cable car to the summit station which at 3,020 meters above sea level. The Rotair revolved as it ascended and provided a 360 degree panoramic view of the stunning landscape. Throughout the journey up the mountain, we were mesmerized by the transformation of scenery from lush greenery to snow covered peaks.

After exit from the station, we were greeted by a snow white landscape. Although the sun was permeating through the clouds, the air was icy cold. We could feel the chill seeping through our winter wear. In the distance, we could see miles and miles of mountains. We made our ascent to the peak. Although the climb was relatively gentle, it was challenging as the snow was slippery. Nevertheless, it was well worth the effort. The view on top of mount Titlis was awesome and breathtaking.

We entered the glacier caves into a mystical world of ice. The entire place is covered with frost which is illuminated with blue light. It was an amazing experience being able to explore the spaces beneath the surface of the glacier.

We took up another challenge and that was to do the cliff walk. The cliff walk is Europe's highest suspension bridge at 3,041 metres above sea-level. Although the bridge is only 100 meters long, you still need strong nerves as the bridge swings left and right when you move from one end to the other. We could feel the rush of adrenaline along with the gust of wind as we crossed the bridge.

We had our lunch at the Panorama Self-Service Restaurant at the summit station. It was extraordinary having lunch and enjoying great spectacular views at the same time.
