Europe Trip Day 2 : Loire Valley - Chateau de Chenonceau

Chateau de Chenonceau

The Loire Valley is well known for the Chateaus or Castles dominating the region and many of them with a rich history closely linked to the kings and nobles. The entire region which stretches from Orleans to Angers is designated as a UNESCO heritage site.
We took a train from Orleans Centre to St Pierre and after that transferred via another train to Chenonceaux.  After about an hour and forty five minutes, we arrived at Chenonceaux. From the train station, it was a short walk of about fifteen minutes to Chateau de Chenonceau.

We walked through a path that was lined with rows of trees on both sides. The interlocking foliage formed a natural shelter overhead the pathway. At the end of the pathway, we were greeted with the splendid view of the Chateau and its gardens. Click to rotate the image below to get a panoramic view.

The Chateau is also known as the Chateau des Dames as it was administered and looked after by extraordinary women which included Diane and Catherine who were the mistress and wife of King Henri II. The Chateau spans across the river Cher and is flanked by the gardens of Diane and Catherine.

There was a sudden downpour and we were fortunate to be inside the chateau and not somewhere in the vast outdoor when the rain came. The rooms in the Chateau are well decorated with art masterpiece and elegant furniture. We also visited the kitchen in the basement which provides a glimpse of the the utensils used during the past couple of centuries.
