Europe Trip Day 5 : Orleans - Museums & Cathedral

Joan of Arc is an important figure for Orleans and we could see traces of her throughout the city. The city has done well in ensuring her legacy lives on and her stories known by future generations.
One of the most prominent monument in Orleans is the statue of Joan at place du Martroi. The statue is erected in the center of the square and flanked on either sides by the Chancellery and the Chamber of Commerce.

Musée des beaux-arts d'Orléans is a museum that is located to the east of the square. There is a huge painting by Jean-Jacques Scherrer at the entrance of the museum depicting the victory of Joan as she marched into the city. Inside the museum, one could marvel at a splendid collection of European arts dated since the 15th century.

Maison de Jeanne d'Arc is a reconstruction of the house where Joan of Arc stayed during the ten day siege of Orleans in 1429. At the place, visitors could learn about the significant events in the life of Joan of Arc through a multimedia presentation.

Basilique Cathedral Sainte-Croix d'Orleans or Cathedral Basilica of the Holy Cross dominates the landscape of Orleans with the twin towers visible from many places in the city. The interior of the cathedral is installed with beautiful stained glass windows relating the story of Joan of Arc.
