We woke up to a bright and sunny day, which was great for exploring the beaches in the area. The resort served continental breakfast with a decent spread of dishes. We liked the porridge and pancakes which were only available on alternate days.
After breakfast, we took a longtail boat from Aonang beach to Railay beach. During boarding, the boatman would pull the boat in as close as possible to the beach. However as the waves were quite strong in the late morning, it was quite challenging to climb onto the rocking boat. We wore slippers and brought waterproof bags as we had expected to get wet during the boarding.
The ride was relatively stable and we got to enjoy the beautiful scenery and sea breeze along the way.
We reached Railay beach in about 15 minutes. The beach was quite wide and there were lots of space for swimming or sunbathing.
As the weather was scorching hot, we decided to head inland to explore. There was a walking street lined with shops and cafes and this led us to the eastern part of Railay. The beach here was very different as it was covered with mangrove and certainty not suitable for swimming. We walked along the coastline until we reached the cliff which provided a great spot for cliff climbing. From here, we ventured on a pathway which ran along the base of the cliff. The area here was sheltered by the overhanging cliff and provided some respite from the heat.
The pathway led us to Phranang beach. The area here was noticeably more crowded perhaps because there were more things to do here. Phranang cave was located at the left side of the beach where one could view interesting artefacts. For the more adventurous, there were a few areas besides the cave for cliff climbing. The beach right by the cliff was sheltered from the sun which provided a great spot for a cool swim.
We had lunch at the Mangrove restaurant located along the walking street. The restaurant was not air conditioned, which was typical of restaurants in Krabi. As a result, it could get a little warm during meals. In addition to the typical Thai cuisine, we had coconut and beer to chill out.
After some fun trekking around the area, we took the longtail boat back to Aonang. It was late afternoon when we went back to the resort. At this moment, the sky turned dark and it started raining heavily. We were wondering when the rain would stop as we had planned to visit the Krabi night market, which opened only during weekends. Fortunately it stopped raining after about an hour or so. We experienced the same weather condition throughout our stay in Krabi and we made sure we were indoors in the late afternoon.
We booked a private cab to bring us to the night market. The cost was 200 THB per person and the journey took about 30 minutes. The cab we took was a mini van that could seat about 10 passengers comfortably.
The night market was buzzing with people when we reached. There were a variety of food and items sold at the street stalls. There was also a seating area with a stage where performances were held. At the designated time, the cab came to pick us up and sent us back to our resort.
