Taiwan Trip Day 4 : Kenting National Park

Kenting National Park
The breakfast provided at the hotel was a simple affair. Instead of the usual buffet, each person is entitled to a set meal which include bread, bacon and coffee. Nevertheless it provided us with the necessary energy to kick start the day.

We took the Kenting Shuttle to 鵝鑾鼻公園 where the Eluanbi Lighthouse is. The Lighthouse was built during the Qing dynasty to guide ships travelling between the Pacific ocean and Taiwan strait. The walls were built with windows for gunfire to fend off raiders.

We moved on to the sea pavilion for a panoramic view of the surrounding ocean. We could view the silhouette of prominent landmarks in the distance. As we walked along the boardwalk, we saw interesting rock formations caused by sea erosion.

Hengchun Old Town 恆春古城 is a historic town built during the Qing Dynasty. The gates which once served as entrances to the ancient town are still standing along with half of its city walls.

ChuHuo Eternal Flame 恆春出火 is a site where visitors can view fires sprouting from the ground. This phenomenon is caused by natural gas seeping from the ground and igniting when it surfaces. We came across some enterprising vendors selling eggs and popcorn cooked with the fire.
