Taiwan Trip Day 5 : Shida Night Market

Kenting

We bid farewell to Kenting and made our way back to Taipei. We took the Kenting Express Shuttle Bus and the High Speed Rail back to Taipei. On the train, we had our lunch consisting of a bento set and a can of mocha. We bought these at a convenient store at the train station. The bento set tasted great considering that it was precooked food. The mocha provided a nice refreshing boost with an aromatic blend of chocolate and caffeine.

After arriving in Taipei, we took the metro to Ximending and checked in to In House Hotel. In the evening we ventured to 師大夜市 which is a night market located in a area well known for its youthful and trendy style. It has a wide selection of street food and also has numerous boutique shops setup by young entrepreneurs. We took the metro to Taipower Building and followed the crowd to the night market.

The night market was buzzing with lots of people when we got there. We joined the queue at Hsu Ji Pan Fried Dumplings 许记生煎包. The fried dumplings were prepared on the spot and they were still hot when our order was ready to be collected. The skin was crispy and the meat oozed with juice with every bite.

After strolling through the night market, we came across steakhouse 牛魔王牛排館 and decided to have our dinner there. We ordered the pastry soup and the steak. The soup was creamy and great for dipping the pastry into. The black pepper steak was served in a sizzling hotplate and it tasted as good as it looked.

We bought mochi from  IJYSHENG 一之軒 flagship store located along Shida Road. The mochi were freshly prepared at the store and had to be consumed within three days. The skin of the mochi was soft and thin and it was filled with paste that oozed out with every bite.
