Europe Trip Day 1: Barcelona - La Rambla & Magic Fountain of Montjuic

Barcelona Espanya

We took a Singapore Airline flight from Singapore to Barcelona, which was our first destination for this trip. The flight took about 13 hours. We spent the time watching movies, snacking and resting during the long journey. It was difficult to catch any sleep because of the aircraft noise. The Audio Technica Noise Cancelling In-Ear Headphones was quite helpful in reducing the ambient noise but still not enough to fully tame the engine roar.

It was morning in Barcelona when we arrived. After clearing the immigration, we made our way to our hotel, Alexandra Barcelona A DoubleTree By Hilton. The Hotel was conveniently located between Passeig de Grácia and Rambla de Catalunya with lots of food, shopping and attractions to explore.

We were served a packet of hot chocolate cookies at the reception which was a nice gesture and the signature welcome from the DoubleTree By Hilton hotel chain. The hotel room was spacious and comfortable.

This period was a good time to travel to Barcelona as the weather was cool and comfortable. We decided to stroll from our hotel to La Rambla, the main shopping district in Barcelona. We wanted to try the local specialty so we ordered seafood paella at one of the cafes at La Boqueria Market for lunch.

After lunch, we walked further down to ARTiSA cafe where we had crepe for our dessert.

We visited Güell Palace which was located in La Rambla. This was a mansion designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí for the industrial tycoon Eusebi Güell.

Next, we took the metro to travel to Espanya to catch the Magic Fountain show. The show was a display of moving jets of water illuminated with colorful lights and synchronized with music. We stood right in front of the fountain and had a really good view of the entire performance.
