Korea Trip Day 2 : Jeju Cherry Blossom & Jeongbang Waterfall

Although spring had arrived on the island of Jeju, the weather was still quite chilly. The arrival of spring also meant that we could see cherry blossom which only bloomed for a short span of time during the season. We had a simple breakfast of bagels and cappuccino at Caffe Bene before heading out.

We collected our rental car from Lotte Car Rental and promptly made our way to our first stop at Jeju Sports Complex. The entire place was surrounded with abundance of Cherry Blossoms. The best thing about this place was that there was no crowd and we could enjoy the view of Cherry Blossoms in a serene environment. The lush foliage of pink petals suggested that the blossoms had just reached its peak. We were very delighted to be at the right place at the right time.

We strolled to Jeonnong-ro where Cherry Blossom Festival was held. It was an awesome sight as both sides of the street were lined with Cherry Blossom trees. When the rain came, we found ourselves walking under a shower of pink petals which was quite an amazing sight.

We had lunch at 삼도정 (723-6522) located along Jeonnong-ro. We ordered a seafood soup and eel soup which came with generous serving of side dishes. The food was delicious and value for money.

After a satisfying meal, we moved on to our next destination to view the Jeongbang waterfall. The water from the falls flowed from a height of 23m over the cliff and into the sea. There were steps leading to the beach where the waterfall was located. After that, one had to tread over slippery rocks in order to get nearer to the base of the waterfall.

We saw a group of haenyeo or women divers on the other side of the Jeongbang waterfall. They were returning from the sea with their haul. We were impressed by their skill and stamina in diving in the rough ocean. One could proceed to the tent on the beach to view and buy the available catch from the sea. This was probably the closest one could get to taste fresh seafood.

After a day of sight seeing, we drove back to Jeju City. We settled for dinner at 효심국수 (748-5678) where we had pork noodles. It was just alright and the side dishes were also very limited. Initially  we wanted to try the restaurant next door but it was closed for the day.
